Testing, reporting and research.

We aim to build the evidence to put to Welsh Water to call for action - sampling the water, logging incidents, and investigating the wider problems facing the river.

Our testing

Water testing already happens - so why test more?

Testing already takes place along the Wye and its tributaries, organised by different groups evidencing the impact of agriculture and sewage. We add a sewage-focused regime built for the Wye Valley.

Working with the Wye Salmon Association and their science group, we are implementing a testing regime designed to gather more evidence of the impact of sewage. This will be extended to include:

  • Above/belowTesting directly above and below the overflow pipes.
  • DownstreamTesting further down river to monitor the impact on the wider river.
  • FrequencyTesting more regularly to catch discharges, rather than only overall river quality.
What we will be testing for

Phosphate

High levels indicate the waste originated from the sewage system.

Ammonia

To evidence waste being a source of an incident.

E. coli

Identifies risks to the local community from the discharge.
